Brent is going to Alaska, again -- want to join him?
We're planning a vintage ride to the Arctic Circle next summer for a few hardy souls, shooting for departure from Sebastopol California in mid-June 2019, arrival at 66.33 degrees north latitude sometime slightly after the summer solstice. This is planned as a vintage bikes only trip (bikes 1969 and earlier). We'll be doing moderate miles each day to enjoy the sites, and planning to camp and hotel, weather pending. The one-way mileage is nearly 3,500 miles all the way to the Arctic Circle. There are a number of return routes, including the ferry out of Prince Rupert B.C. to Vancouver Island; ferry out of Skagway Alaska to Bellingham WA, and ferry out of Anchorage to Bellingham WA. For those who don't have time to do the entire route, but still want the Alaska experience, the trip to Hyder Alaska takes an estimated 8 days one way.
There will be some gravel, road construction, and the 2-mile long expanded metal bridge at Teslin. We'll be meeting up to go over gear, tools and extra parts at our annual get together June 8-9, planning to take off after that. Those wanting to go, make sure your bike is in good shape, and let me know if you are interested.
